FREEFALL Pinot Noir 2008

Variety:                100% Pinot Noir

Region:                100% Bendigo, Central Otago

Philosophy:          Freefall Wines take inspiration from New Zealand’s adventurous spirit and are best enjoyed following the conquering of your own personal challenge!

Winemaking:       The grapes were picked according to soil type, and each portion was fermented individually. The ripe tannins were extracted through regular cap wetting rather than hand plunging. 20% of the ferments were whole bunch to highlight aromatics and build the accessible structure in this wine.  Predominantly older oak barrels were used to ensure the clean vibrant fruit flavours that Central Otago is famous for were pronounced.

Tasting Notes:    Aromas of wild thyme from the Bendigo hills come to the fore in our Pinot with a full complement of dark warm fruit. The palate is immediately approachable with silky ripe tannins supported by vibrant boysenberry and blackcurrant notes. A classic, upfront rich and ripe Central Otago Pinot Noir – its music to the taste-buds!

Food Match:        ‘Free Range’ Rabbit stew of wild thyme, carrots, turnips, celery, smoked bacon with crème fraiche.

Where to Drink:  After a rewarding day biking the historic Central Otago Rail Trail, taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery of the region, savour this rich and flavoursome Pinot in front of a roaring schist fire place.

Cellaring:             Drinking superbly now and will cellar well for up to 4 years.

Technicals:           Alcohol: 14.0%
